So for example a 38" chest is a meduim in the USA whereas in Japan and China its often labelled as a large or extra-large. Ah, I've just seen that they have down and ultra down. You have to define what you mean in measurements - and when you allocate those measurements to a sizing system you're using a Western sizing system which many Asian countries don't even adhere to. I don't have a uniqlo proper down coat.

In my experience Uniqlo fits larger than HM, I tend to go 1 size up with HM & TTS with Uniqlo. I use an UL under a thinner coat - its more the warmth of a thick jumper but not windproof, and certainly not waterproof (its not meant to be). In the US UNIQLO I almost never see anything smaller than a 25, whereas in Japan the 22s are generally available as the smallest stocked size. Pants are true to size. Plus I enjoy being called a "super great customer". Mine is last years and is not! But in some things I wish I'd bought the large. The men's stuff is about a size or more smaller than an M+S equivalent. (I'm an 8/10 in most shops).
Chicago's Uniqlo doesn't open until fall and I'll be at school then. Mine is 5years old and I love it, even if it is really really brown.
