This is a terrific book.
Also there is a tad more than "just kissing" as far as sexy stuff goes including when Wesley refers to Buttercup's "perfect breasts". It is a romance movie, it has action, it can be watched by both boys and girls without problems as the movie isn't gendered by society. We all still watch this movie as we've grown out and claim it to be one of the best movies ever, it's charming and quirky. As others have noted, there are scary elements and mildly disturbing gender roles here, but it's still a great film. However I am not sure how Common Sense Media can say that language is not an issue. It's certainly not G by any means, but it's much milder than many pg movies, and considering there are still G movies I don't let my kid watch because of violence or drug use, this movie's doing well.

I love The Princess Bride, and this is a good copy, but trying to use this one to read to the kids as a bedtime story is a little rough when you have to skip almost half the book because the author has to add something in in italics. My biggest fear was that it would be a watered down version of the movie with less humor and wit, or that the movie took the best parts and the book would be mostly unsatisfying filler with the occasional recognizable humor. OVERALL THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST AND FUNNIEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME AND IS A MUST WATCH FOR ANYONE WHO IS NOT BOTHERED BY SOME VIOLENCE AND KISSING. I have three boy's: 7, 11, and 13,and they all love it. It might be a great example of compassion, or it might send the message that it's okay to be treated with disrespect. Deeper than that, the movie is misogynistic .. the lead female character is literally just brought along while all the action takes place among the men.
