For one thing, the Jack C character isn't really in it, other than for a few, about four, pages. I liked the character of Jack Carpenter, but overall, I was disappointed in this story. When Carpenter arrived on the scene, a giant of a man drug the woman out of her apartment, summarily dispatched Carpenter to the ground, and flung the woman into a getaway vehicle. I am a little puzzled by all the glowing reviews of The Night Monster. The child eventually learns not to fear the night and to care for it. He confides in his older sister Swati, and she advises him to draw a picture of the monster and then lock it in a box. The pace is fast(the best thing about the book), with mini mysteries popping up nearly every 10 pages.

I thought the concept was cool. The boy does this, and receives a response in the morning. Hoo rah for you Mr. Swain. Private Detective Jack Carpenter is haunted by a specific cold case he couldn’t solve when he was a cop in Florida. An interesting story about facing fear. I think it is simple, about a girl scared of the dark, who learns that the shapes and shadows and sounds of darkness can be warm and inviting. While the ending makes me feel like the author is giving away the secret to the children reading the story. Not sure whose fault this is, but it is beyond frustrating. That was nearly two decades ago, and Carpenter’. I decided that I will keep reading his books. I won't be buying any more books by James Swain. Welcome back. I’m definitely hooked on Jack Carpenter ‘s tenacity and grit. Jack Carpenter is a former police officer turned PI who fails to stop the abduction of his daughter's college teammate. We’d love your help. I liked reading the backstory through this book, making want to know more about the mystery.

“The Night Monster” is one of those books that has the reader turning pages, faster and faster, hooked and anxious to see what will happen next. It deserves some american awards too! The bad guys are a little unusual, but not so much. I thought the approach was definitely an interesting one. Definitely recommended.

Besides my rant about the ending, it was a sw. A story for children who are afraid of the dark and the shadows and noises within.
The action is never ending from start to finish and offers the reader a premise.
