Miles Doleac shows a … But let's face it, they probably don't know either. And really, the characters surprised me at the end. And the film bored me half to death. The story was beautifully done with a gradual build up of tension and the finale. She’ll think it be nice to get everyone together, especially since Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is ill.
What is so bad about this movie? We can tell what will happen when they have to surrender their phones. The setting is gorgeous, and the music evokes the proper emotions to set up the next scene. I'm a big fan of violence and gore so this is right up my alley. Remember in Episode 1 when Ford mentions that Abernathy used to be a character called "The Professor" in a story called "The Dinner Party"? As the evening descends into madness, the group’s true intentions are revealed, along with an ancient secret that will change the Duncans’ lives and fortunes forever. Most importantly the winner is the storyline as it really had me on the edge of my seat. Although I don't typically gravitate toward horror, I do love a good thriller.
Thoroughly enjoyed this film from start to finish and what a wild finish it was! This is a crazy wild movie.
Unfortunately it fell very flat, and I wish I could get my nearly two hours back. The storyline is excellent as the film continuously had it's ups and downs that leaves the audience guessing as to what could happen next.
The Dinner Party has enough of a balance between mystery and gore to claim both.

The only nagging downside to this was the casting of Alli Hart as the lead, "Haley". If horror is your cup of tea and you like to watch films where the story just keeps getting bigger and complex this is one you can't miss. Sure, it does take a bit too long to get to the action, sort of speak, but the film does a magnific work at building up the suspense, presenting every character slowly develop, while things get darker and more mysterious. I've seen mixed reviews about this film and after watching it myself all I have to say is.. haters are going to hate!
I'm a fan. As a horror fan, there's enough suspense, gore, and occult symbolism to satisfy.
Unfortunately, the subtlety required to pull off that kind of movie was missing entirely in this one because the characters were over the top. Miles Doleac shows a sure hand and sophisticated story-telling eye. Quality production, well done. Everything just, flowed. |

If you're anything like us, you're constantly bugging your TV-watching buddies to tell you "what happens next". I appreciate what The Dinner Party was trying to do. Another example of indie trash that has no right to be as prominantly advertised as it is, THE DINNER PARTY offers yet another tired spin on the old meal-from-hell scenario as a couple of innocent interlopers find themselves hooking up with a bunch of eccentric neighbours for one fateful night.
It will have you gasping at certain moments and even laughing at certain parts.
I look forward to seeing what Doleac has in store for audiences in the future! Beautiful exploration of the horror of memory, A macabre mix of fine culture and savage violence. Actors did a great job, specially some of the elite members.

But with the final vows, dinner party and reunion set to air shortly. What an impressive performance by everybody involved and a special mention for the beautiful cinematography and the design elements that are in this film. Knowing that the hosts of the dinner party were cannibals thanks to the press email I received, really took away from the suspense of the film. Gore filled thriller with a crazy ending! You go to a dinner party as a guy thinking you'll make a good impression but more as the featured entree for a set of elite, cultured anthropophagist nudists. Renowned surgeon and culinary enthusiast, Carmine Braun, invites playwright, Jeffrey Duncan, and his wife to join his eccentric friends at their semi-annual dinner party, having promised to fund Duncan’s new play to Broadway. The ending of The Dinner Party is something that I didn’t see coming, and it is actually pretty good.
It is so obvious that something strange is going on that you're not surprised when everything goes to hell. Although a slow start, this movie is scary, suspenseful, gory, and fun!

So is The Dinner Party worth a watch? I knew from the opening scene that I was going to be cheering for Haley (Alli Hart). The look of the movie gives a rich feeling which allows the audience to get lost in the story.
I can see notes of other stories, but that's where the writers excel. It's too bad. The Dinner Party has way too long a set up and by the time we got anywhere, I didn’t care anymore. It's a little slow in the beginning so give it a chance, cuz the payoff is well worth the character-driven setup. The epilogue is so far removed from what you think at the beginning, and that's a fun journey to take. There's nothing more rewarding, for me, than a story that slowly unfolds and allows you to play along with the storyteller.
One minute they are innocent and happy and inviting, the next self serving and maniacal. Each with their own hidden agenda. The Dinner Party is not only extremely slow to get going, once it does, it doesn’t get any better.
The Dinner Party will hit theaters June 5 and is available on DVD and Digital June 9th! Epic! You made my night and I hope to see more films from the same director in the future.
I got to say I wasn't expecting such good performance both actor and director wise. Even if you are into fun horror films that are filled with gore, it is likely you won’t enjoy this one. Well acted, shot, scored and directed. I am also convinced the bad reviews on here are a bunch of bitter people who have never made a film in their lives.

Instead, I just wanted it to be over with, and found myself checking the time left more than once. Crazy horror, thriller film! The Dinner Party, produced by Historia Films, is a wonderfully-layered horror/thriller, beautifully shot by cinematographer Michael Williams, deftly paced by editor Keith Jared Hollingsworth, and strongly acted with nuance by a well=cast company of actors. And what a dinner party that was!
Well, The Dinner Party reminds me a little bit of Ready Or Not, but nowhere near as good. Underpinning the terror and gore is a beautiful story of coming to terms with past traumas and discovering how those traumas create present horrors and mayhem.

We've got some spoilers for The Vampire Diaries' season 2 episode 15, titled "The Dinner Party". Definitely a nice dinner and a movie night. Parts are too grotesque to stomach, although the ending tries to save it. Respect the craft and support indie filmmakers.
Unfortunately, her plan to do some good will backfire spectacularly. In The Dinner Party, I was totally over it by the time anything good was happening.
Or perhaps, not... maybe leave the food and just watch ;).

As with many indies, the acting veers between wooden and OTT and there's no suspense or tension at all, just lame dialogue and a randomly overlong running time. Stefan tells Elena about a dark time in his past; Jonas tries to express his feelings to Bonnie and Jeremy; Damon plans a dinner party. I was completely uninterested for the first 45 minutes. Great acting, nicely edited and the cinematography was on point.
"The Dinner Party" is really good quality for it being considered an indie film. The dinner takes a long time to get to a plot and doesn't quite make it to a point but is reasonably well acted and the characters of the two brothers develop well.
I like movies where the tension builds slowly until it reaches some unforeseen end. Perfection!

External Reviews Playwrite Mike Mayhall (Jeff Duncan ) and his shy wife Haley (Alli Hart) attend a dinner party by a perspective angel. Of particular note is the performance by Sawandi Wilson and the film's musical score. Both films also have pretty good endings (although Ready Or Not’s is hard to top).
But we are all stuck inside with nothing to do so if you feel like giving it a shot go ahead. This is a heck of a movie! Really, this cast just works like pieces of a particularly intricate puzzle. Not really. I generally love horror movies where you know something is off but you can't quite put your finger on it. Giving this a 9! If you are into movies well presented,with attention to detail and you dig the occult stuff, this movie wont dissapoint you. I've seen Doleac, Sage, Williams, Mayhall, and Montgomery in other films.
While this film definitely crosses genres, boasting plenty of horror for gore fans, it doesn't sacrifice its intelligence. Even if blood and gore are not particularly appetizing to you, I think you will enjoy seeing this story played out with its twisty ending. Unfortunately the acting was not great — by anyone. The awesome gore (as you would expect in a movie like this) was done right and again it was really suspenseful right to the end. There is one moment where Haley throws up, and I was ready to vomit right along with her. Because of this I expected to really enjoy The Dinner Party. A real thriller and one of the best suspenseful movies i've seen so far in 2020. But the road to get there is way too long and drawn out. The Party is apparently Brexit-related, though it reminded me most of the Blairite years in the mid-1990s, before the 1997 general election swept them to power – those heady days when Labour supporters were in the main prepared to suppress their true political natures in order to get elected. They've created stories within stories.
